Its the end of the year! and you are ready for the events that will happen through the holidays and yuletide. You have your new gadgets, gifts, new clothes and more items that are keep on arriving from your family and friends as gifts, and to your surprise, you got a new action camera, Hooray! But wait, you need something to get the new camera going through the moments passing by!
So, what do we recommend? Extra batteries and a charger to juice it up! Like this one from Smatree, The SJ-C4, which is a battery kit for SJCAM Action Cameras which contains Two (2) Batteries and a Dual Charging Dock so you can use your brand new action camera without any hiccups on the go! So, without further ado, let's get into the review.
Editors Note: This battery kit is compatible to SJ4000, SJ5000, and M10 camera series ONLY.
PACKAGING
The battery kits comes in a small brown box with the Smatree Logo up top. It is sealed with a white Smatree sticker, and also at the stop, it has a small Yellow Sticker indicating the compatible SJCAM model for it (Which is quite simple). Although the sticker indicates "FOR SJ4000", it is compatible with SJ5000 and M10 series also (Click image to view larger version).
CONTENTS
Opening the box shows the charger unit, wrapped in clear matte plastic, while on its side sits two white boxes containing the batteries which have a 1100mAh capacity (larger than the one provided by SJCAM), and on the top, a Mini USB Cable.
PRODUCT REVIEW
The charger unit is built in good plastic quality. On top you will see the two battery slots which have an embedded and embossed battery indicator. It also houses two LED lights which lights up RED when charging, and GREEN/YELLOW when the battery is full. The right hand side of the charger contains a Mini USB Port while on the left side, it has a Micro USB Port (Both awkward and smart move by Smatree. Either one can be used to charge two batteries). The back side of the charger contains the technical voltage information about the charger.
Now, Talk about performance, well, it performs as advertised! and longer than the stock battery provided by SJCAM. The two batteries goes right into the charger and locks into place with the two metal charging prongs (But not too much; Can be removed by flipping the charger over). In terms of usability. we have some information regarding this charger that you might wanna take into notice: First, it can charge one battery (unlike some chargers which requires you to charge even number of batteries, e.g 2, 4, so on). Second, if you are charging one battery, and then you decided to add another one, the indicator light of the charger will not change (Empty Slot shows green when not charging any battery, If you insert one, it will stay green), so, to fix that, just re-plug the USB Cable.
On our tests and usage, it lasts longer than the stock SJCAM Battery (Well, it is pretty obvious). Charging time takes around one hour (both batteries) which is something we really liked about it because it means we can have more time using our lovely Action Camera from SJCAM.
VERDICT
With its price, which ranges from PHP750.00 (around $15) more or less, it is a must have add-on for every compatible SJCAM owner out there. It surely lessens the things you need to worry about when capturing those life-treasuring moments.
